The Street Voices art project is this year’s collaboration between BZ Heartbeat and the South Tyrolean Artists’ Association as part of Bolzano Art Week. The project takes visitors on a fascinating journey through the historic centre of Bolzano through the eyes, ears and voices of local artists.
Bolzano, capital of the autonomous province of South Tyrol, gateway to the Dolomites and cultural melting pot between the German and Italian-speaking cultures. For centuries, the Mediterranean and the Alps have met in this city: contrasts overlapped, different styles merged and traditions and lifestyles intertwined to form an irresistible synthesis. An extraordinary cultural intersection that is not only expressed in the linguistic mix of its inhabitants, but is also reflected in the historic city centre of Bolzano. Everywhere in the medieval city centre, visitors witness history and culture, when the old town was considered the most important centre for trade between Italy, Austria and Germany for centuries.
Through the old town with the eyes and ears of artists
An old town with such a rich history naturally has a lot to offer: History, art, architecture and shops that invite you to go on exciting discovery tours. Reason enough for the BZ Heartbeat and the South Tyrolean Artists’ Association to introduce the city to those interested in culture and tourism with a tour. The joint art project ‘Street Voices’ was developed as part of the Bolzano Art Week. A fascinating journey through the historic centre of Bolzano, accompanied by the voices and suggestions of local artists.
Visitors learn to look at alleyways, streets and squares anew through the ears and eyes of authors and musicians such as Max Castlunger, Maddalena Fingerle, Peter || KOMPRIPIOTR || Holzknecht, Astrid Kofler, Erika Wimmer Mazohl, Manuel Oberkalmsteiner, Nadia Rungger and Jörg Zemmler and discover creative and artistic places in the South Tyrolean capital.
The artists explore important cultural hubs in Bolzano’s historic centre such as the fruit market, Kornplatz, Bindergasse and Laubengasse to share their experiences with the audience and sharpen their view of the alleyways, streets and squares in terms of artistic reality.
